  • A medical attestation from the hospital or doctor in Iceland, confirming the date of appointment as well as your medical situation is required.

Iceland Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Iceland student visa enables Kenyans to visit Iceland to study in one of the institutions in the country.
  • You must ensure you have been accepted into one of the institutions of your choice in the country before applying for visa.
  • Students will need to apply for a residence permit before arriving in Iceland which can be done by contacting the Directorate of Immigration in Iceland or by notifying the nearest Icelandic embassy.
  • All students are required to apply for a Kennitala – an Icelandic ID/social security number - which is used for every day matters, such as opening a bank account.
  • Letter of acceptance from the institution in Iceland is required. This is proof that you can attend lectures and write exams at school.
  •  If you are given a scholarship, you must provide the letter of sponsorship from the body that awarded the scholarship to you.
  • Students are required to provide medical insurance details. 
  • Proof of financial support in the form of bank statements must be provided. Students are required to have at least ISK 180, 550/ EUR 1,434 per month.
  • Student visas in Iceland are flexible enough to allow students to apply for a work permit while they are engaged in their studies. Students are allowed to work 20 working hours per week.

Iceland Official Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is for diplomats visiting the country for official purposes.
  • Diplomats visiting the country aim to improve the relationship between the government of Kenya and Iceland.
  • A diplomatic note from the Kenyan government is required. The note should contain your position in government, duration, and purpose of your visit to the country.
  • An original invitation letter from the Icelandic government is required.
  • Applicants of this visa are Heads of State, Consular officers, ministers, and African Union representatives.
  • Asides Head of States, if your purpose of visiting the country is non-official, this visa will not be issued to you.
  • If you are traveling with a minor, the original copy of the minor’s birth certificate should be presented during the visa application process.
  • Diplomats can attend conferences and meetings while you are in the country.
  • You are not allowed to study with this visa.
  • Holders of this visa cannot be paid for the services they render in the country.
  • Applicants should ensure they have a valid means of identification.

  • Foreigners can transit through Iceland to their destination country with this visa.
  • Holders of this visa are required to possess the visa and flight ticket of their destination country.
  • If you are under the age of 18 years, the unabridged original copy of your birth certificate should be provided.
  • Receipt of paid visa application fee is required.
  • You are not allowed to study or take up paid or unpaid employment during your time in the country.
  • The visa is valid for 24 hours.
  • You are required to exit the country before the expiry of your visa.
