Basic Travel Requirements for Laotians visiting North Korea
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a North Korean Visa.
- A completed and signed North Korean visa application form.
- Recently taken passport photos not older than six months.
- A passport with six months validity remaining and at least two blank passport pages for visa stamps.
- Flight reservations and return ticket.
- A hotel reservation receipt to show proof of accommodation while in North Korea.
- A cover letter showing your details and the purpose and duration of travel.
- Employed applicants are expected to show a letter from their employer stating that a leave of absence has been granted and that you will return to your current job after your trip.
- A travel medical insurance with sufficient medical coverage to cover your duration of stay in the country.
- Proof of accommodation or hotel reservations in North Korea.
- Bank statement not older than three months to show proof of sufficient funds to cover expenses that you may incur while in the country.

North Korea Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The North Korea tourist visa is a visa issued to Laotians who intend to visit North Korea for tour, visitation and other recreational purposes.
- Foreigners who intend to visit North Korea must join a private tour as independent travel to North Korea is not allowed.
- The North Korea tourist visa is issued on a separate paper in the form of a tourist card and not on the applicant's passport.
- All tourist group must be approved and guided by a tour operator.
- A photocopy of your passport is required. The passport must be valid for a duration of six months and must have blank pages for visa stamps.
- Recently taken 35mmx45mm passport sized photographs taken against a white background.
- Foreigners in North Korea on a tourist visa are not allowed to work or study with this visa.
- The tour agency is required to provide for the applicant accommodation while in North Korea.
- Employed applicants are required to show a letter from their employer, the letter must contain the employer's contact details, the applicants current job position in the company, the duration and purpose of stay in North Korea and must be written on the company’s letterhead.
- Minors are expected to show a consent letter signed by both parents or legal guardians and the original copy of their birth certificate.
- A flight return ticket to show that you will return to your home country after the expiry of your tourist card.
- Proof of paid visa fee.
- Foreigners in North Korea are advised to be careful while in the country, anyone found wandering about can face deportation.
- Tourists are not allowed to take pictures of public buildings. Foreigners found doing so can face imprisonment.
North Korea Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- This is a visa issued to foreigners who intend to visit North Korea for business transactions or meetings.
- Laotians visiting North Korea on a business visa can attend business meetings, conferences or trade fairs while in the country.
- Applicants are required to show their original passport. The passport must be valid for six months and must have blank visa pages.
- Two recent 35mm x 45mm passport-sized photographs are required.
- An invitation letter from the inviting company in North Korea is required. The letter must be written on the company’s letterhead and should show the company's stamp.
- Proof of previous business dealings between the two company’s should be provided, if any.
- Certificate of business registration of the inviting company should be provided.
- A business letter stating if the host company or the applicant’s employer is responsible for the applicant's expenses should be submitted.
- Proof of travel medical insurance valid for the applicant’s duration of stay in North Korea must be provided.
- Proof of accommodation or hotel reservation is required.
- Foreigners in North Korea are required to obey the rules of the country, anyone found going against the country’s rules and regulations will be punished.
- A document stating that the applicant will return back to his home country after the expiry of his business visa is to be provided.
- The applicants' marriage certificate or child’s birth certificate is required to show ties to the country.
- Laotians are not permitted to receive payment for the services they rendered while in North Korea.
