General Requirements for Tunisia Visa
Tunisia Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Visitors intending to travel to Tunisia for tourism or leisure must apply for the Tunisian tourist visa.
- This visa is valid for 90 days and it's not extendable.
- The import of Tunisian currency is prohibited. Visitors must declare cash brought into Tunisia in excess of TND 10,000.
- Visitors must declare amounts above TND 5,000 if they wish to export that amount upon departure.
- Typhoid and Hepatitis A are two vaccinations that are strongly recommended when traveling to Tunisia.
- Travelers must also be up to date with their polio and tetanus vaccines. Luckily Tunisia is malaria-free.
- Violent crime is quite rare in Tunisia but getting harassed by "guides" and petty theft is fairly common in the tourist areas and souks.
- Tunisia is an Islamic country so be modest with your clothing. In the major tourist areas and the capital Tunis, the dress is quite modern and only half the women wear headscarves but you won't see too many short skirts, shorts or tank tops. Wear a bikini or swimsuit only at a pool or on a beach.
- The Tunisian National Guard encourages persons traveling into the desert to register their travel beforehand.
- No special authorization is required to travel to the desert as far south as Remada.
- The desert south of Remada is designated as a military zone by the Government of Tunisia. If travelers wish to enter the military zone, for example, to travel to Borma, a special authorization is required. The Department of State advises visitors against travel to this area.
- You may be taken in for questioning if you don’t have your passport with you or if you take pictures of certain buildings. It is against Tunisian law to photograph government offices and other security facilities.
