Application requirements
Documents Malawian applicants need to provide.
- Malawi passport must have a validity that extends the duration of the visa the applicant is applying for by at least 3 months.
- You must have a valid passport with at least 2 blank pages.
- Completed and signed visa application form should be submitted by the applicant.
- The applicant must provide proof of confirmed hotel reservation and flight bookings.
- The applicant must provide the complete travel program for the entire duration of stay in Luxembourg, including itinerary, dates, and places to be visited.
- The applicant must provide a copy of the round-trip or onward journey ticket.
- The applicant must provide proof of sufficient financial means so as to support yourself financially during your stay in Luxembourg and for your return transportation
- The applicant must provide a formal statement of the financial situation from the bank for the last 3 months and the statement must be signed by the bank manager in Malawi.
- Applicant must provide a copy of Income Tax Return papers for the last 2 years.
- Medical travel insurance that is valid for the whole duration of stay in Luxembourg and it must have a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000
- The medical insurance must cover costs for your emergency medical treatment or urgent hospitalization.
- If the applicant is a minor, under the age of 18 years, and intend to travel alone to Luxembourg, written consent from your parents or guardians is required and it must be certified by a public notary.
- If the minor intends to travel with only one parent, the written consent of the other parent or guardian is required.
- Applicants are required to leave Luxembourg at the end of the authorized stay.
- Applicants are required to bring original copies and photocopies of all supporting documents when you come to submit your visa application form at the Embassy of Luxembourg.

Tourist visa
- The tourist visa issues to foreigners visiting Luxembourg for tourist purposes such as holidays, relaxations, recreation and visiting of friends and family.
- The Luxembourg visa application must be fully completed and signed by the applicant.
- The Malawi passport must be valid for at least 3 months from the date of return from Luxembourg.
- The passport should have at least 2 blank pages for the visa stamp.
- Two recent passport photograph with at least 75-80% face coverage, taken against a white background should be attached to the application form.
- Medical/travel insurance should cover at least 30,000 EUR for any emergency during your tour and it needs to be valid for the whole duration of stay in Luxembourg.
- The flight itinerary for the round trip that specifies your entry and exit dates from Luxembourg, as well as the flight numbers provided by your tour operator or visa reservation provider, should also suffice.
- Bank statement for the last 3 months showing proof of sufficient funds, should be duly signed and sealed at the bank branch in Malawi.
- Along with the bank statement, the Income Tax Returns papers for the past two years should also be submitted.
- A copy of covering letter having all the information about the applicant's visit, such as the date of journey and return, means of accommodation, and mode of transport. Also, the applicant needs to be clear about the purpose of visiting Luxembourg well before applying for the visa.
- Applicants are required to provide proof of accommodation, such as the hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your friend/relative who permanently resides in Luxembourg.
- A travel itinerary will be required in case of round-trip flight bookings.
- The applicant will need to provide an invitation letter from the host in Luxembourg explaining the relationship with the applicant.
- The letter should explain the nature and purpose of the trip along with relevant justification.
- If the applicant is a minor and will be accompanied by at least one parent who should provide an original notarized consent by the other parent in addition to the copies of passports or IDs of parents
- If the minor will be travelling alone, a signed consent note from both parents / legal guardians, plus copies of passports or IDs of parents is required.
- Applicants are advised to apply for a tourist visa at least 3 weeks in advance of the planned travel date so that there is enough time for the application procedure to be completed on time.
Business visa
- An international passport valid for at least 3 months after the expiration of the visa
- This passport should have at least 2 blank pages for the Luxembourg visa stamp.
- Applicants are also required to provide a copy of all the pages with visas and travel stamps.
- Two passport photographs measuring with a white background should be glued to your visa application form.
- A correctly filled and signed visa application form is required.
- Proof that you are legally residing in Malawi by submitting a copy of the Malawi residence permit. This is applicable to applicants that are not citizens of Malawi.
- Business owners will need to provide a copy of the certificate of registration, tax forms, recent company bank statement, and recent personal bank statement.
- An invitation letter from the individual or company the applicant will be meeting in Luxembourg stating the nature of the business to be conducted in Luxembourg. The purpose and duration of the trip should be included in this letter.
- A letter from the applicant’s employer in Luxembourg stating the awareness of the business leaves, purpose and the duration of leave to Luxembourg.
- Recent bank statements of the last 6 months showing evidence that the applicant has enough financial means for the whole duration of stay in Luxembourg.
- Proof of accommodation or copy of hotel booking in Luxembourg is required.
- Travel health insurance of 30, 000 Euro is required for the whole period of stay in Luxembourg.
