Basic Travel Requirements for Malians visiting Spain
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Spanish Visa.
- Duly completed and signed visa application form.
- 2 recently taken passport-size photographs, taken with a light background that meets the Spanish visa photo specifications.
- An original passport with at least two blank pages, valid for at least three months beyond your intended return date is required.
- A round-trip reservation or itinerary with dates and flight numbers specifying entry into and exit from Spain.

General Requirements for Spain Visa

Spain Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Spanish tourist visa is a short-stay Schengen visa issued to visitors who intend to travel to Spain for tourism, sightseeing, relaxing, visiting family and friends or other recreational activities.
- With the tourist visa, you can also get medical treatment in Spain.
- You must provide proof that you can finance your trip for the entire duration of your stay in Spain which means you can spend at least €583.74 if the duration of your trip is 10 days or at least €64.86 per day for trips lasting longer than 10 days.
- The proof should come in copies of your bank account statements from the last six months or your most recent payslips.
- If you are visiting relatives or friends living in Spain, you are to submit an original letter of invitation stating the contact details of your host in the country.
- The invitation letter should also contain the purpose of your travel, the relationship between you and your host, the duration of your stay, and affirm whoever will be responsible for your expenses.
- If you are not staying with a loved one, you must show proof of a hotel reservation.
- A cover letter stating the purpose of your visit, places you plan to visit during your stay in Spain, and the time for each travel should be submitted as well.
- To show that you plan to leave Spain once your visa expires, you are required to provide a copy of your roundtrip flight ticket or a confirmed travel itinerary. This document should show both entry and exit dates as well as flight information.
- For proof of employment status in Mali, you are to provide an employment contract, current bank statements of the latest six months and an Income Tax Return (ITR).
- If self-employed, you should submit proof of business certification such as the Business Licence and the company's certified bank account statements for the last three months.
- For students, proof of enrollment and leave approval from your school is necessary.

Spain Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Spanish business visa is for travelers with the intention of carrying out business in Spain.
- With this visa, you can attend business events in Spain.
- You are expected to prove that you are financially able to fund the entire duration of your trip and to also live comfortably on at least €65 per day while in Spain, by providing your most recent bank account statements.
- To obtain a Spanish business visa, an original copy of an invitation letter from a Spanish company, addressed to the Consulate General of Spain in Mali, written in Spanish is needed. This letter must clearly state your full name and passport number, the reason for the invitation and the trade relations between your company and the inviting Spanish company.
- If there exist previous trade relations between your company and the inviting Spanish company, you must provide proof of such relations. This proof could be original bills of lading, custom clearance documents or any such proof you may have.
- For trade fairs, conferences and other business events, you are to show documents that prove that you have been invited or paid for attendance.
- To show that you intend to return to Mali once your visa expires, you are required to provide proof of a roundtrip ticket.
- Hotek reservation that spans the entire duration of your stay in Spain is necessary.

Spain Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- A student from Mali traveling to Spain to study longer than three months needs to get a Spanish student visa (Type D visa).
- You need to have been offered admission into a Spanish school before applying for this visa.
- You will be required to provide an admission letter as well as an original copy of your acceptance letter.
- The acceptance letter must state the details of the study you intend to take in Spain, including the hours of study per week which must not be less than 20 hours.
- A medical certificate confirming that you do not have any diseases that would require you to be quarantined is necessary.
- You also need to provide proof that you have the means to support yourself financially for the entire duration of your stay in Spain. Such proof could be scholarship details, a Spanish bank showing sufficient funds or a letter of sponsorship from your parents or guardians assuming full responsibility for your financial needs.
- For students on sponsorship. you must show your letter of sponsorship offer while applying for this visa.
- A police record confirming you do not have any pending criminal case is important. This document must be issued within the last five years for it to be valid. Applicants with an ongoing criminal case will not be issued this visa.
- You also need to obtain a Spanish student residence permit if you intend to study in Spain for more than 6 months. This permit should be obtained within 30 days of entering Spain from a police station or your local Foreign Office.
- You will need to apply for a student resident permit that covers the duration of your course in the country.
- The letter of residency that confirms that you are residing in Spain can be obtained at a Spanish police station by presenting your valid passport, rental contract or utility bill.
- Once your application is approved, you’ll be given a student residence permit/card valid for a year. This student permit can be renewed every year for five years as long as your studies continue.
- With the student residence permit, you can work for up to 20 hours per week, as long as it does not interfere with your studies and the money you earn is not to support yourself while you are in Spain.
- The student visa costs €60 for applicants 12 years and above, €35 for children between 6-11 and is free for children under 6.
- While the application for this visa usually takes 15 days, the period can extend to 30 days for specific reasons. You are thus advised to begin your application as soon as possible.
Spain Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Spanish work visa allows holders to work in Spain.
- For you to apply for the work visa, you must have been offered employment in a Spanish organization.
- After you have secured a job, your employer must request a work permit on your behalf which will permit you to work legally in Spain.
- The permit will only be granted if the job is listed as a Shortage Occupation or if the vacancy has been advertised and there are no suitable candidates from Spain or the EU to take the job.
- Once you have been cleared to work in Spain, you will be issued a work permit.
- You should note that you cannot apply for your own work visa in Spain as the Spanish immigration law dictates that employers must submit the application on your behalf. It is thus important that you contact your employer early to get the process started.
- A police report showing no criminal record and was obtained within the latest 90 days is necessary.
- The original copy of a medical certificate issued by a medical institution and signed by a doctor verifying that you are free from any contagious diseases or drug addictions is important.
- Processing your work permit can take up to eight months so you are advised to start your application well in time.
- A work permit is valid for one year but it can be renewed as long as you still fulfill the requirements under which it was first issued.

Can I extend my stay in Spain?
