Basic Travel Requirements for Malians visiting Sweden
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Swedish Visa.
- Fully completed and signed visa application form.
- Two recently taken passport-sized photographs (3.5x4.5cm) that meet the visa photo requirements.
- An original Malian passport not older than 10 years, with at least three months validity beyond the date you plan to leave Sweden. Your passport should have at least 2 blank pages for visas.
- Onward or return ticket.
- A valid medical insurance policy with a minimum coverage of €30,000 in case of any medical emergency such as illnesses, accidents and even repatriation in case of death.
- For minors, the application form must be signed by the parents/legal guardians accompanied by a signed consent form.
- Minors are also required to present their original birth certificate as well as a valid means of identification of their parents.
- For Non-Malians, a valid residence permit to prove residence in Mali is required.
- A document that shows where you will be accommodated throughout your stay in Sweden.
- Letter of invitation from a host if you intend to stay with the host in Sweden.
- Evidence that you have enough money to support yourself financially throughout your stay in Sweden.
- Documentation proving status in Mali either as an employee, student or business owner.
- A cover letter detailing the purpose, duration and any other necessary information about the trip.

General Requirements for Sweden Visa

Sweden Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The tourist visa is suitable for Malians traveling to Sweden for recreational purposes.
- With this visa, applicants can also visit friends and relatives residing in Sweden.
- The tourist visa also allows its holder to attend social and cultural events, as well as festivals, in Sweden.
- If you are visiting a friend or relatives in Sweden, you will need to obtain a letter of invitation from them showing their home address and telephone number. A valid means of identification of the host is also necessary.
- If you will be staying in a hotel, you are to provide a hotel reservation ticket that spans the duration of your stay.
- Without an invite, you must submit a cover letter stating the purpose of your visit, places you intend to visit while in Sweden and how long you intend to stay in the country.
- Applicants who are employees must provide proof of employment and a letter of no objection from their employer allowing a leave from work for the duration of the trip. The proof of employment could be an employment contract.
- You must prove you can cater for your expenses in Sweden and can spend at least SEK450 per day. This proof should come in the form of a copy of your last 3 months' bank statement or two years income tax declaration.
- If you will be sponsored by a host in Sweden, you should provide a sponsorship letter affirming to take care of your expenses in the country.
- You should note that the tourist visa does not permit you to work in Sweden. Engaging in this could attract a penalty.
- As proof that you intend to return to Mali before your visa expires, you are required to tender a roundtrip flight ticket showing entry and exit dates to/from Sweden as well as the flight numbers.
- This visa allows a stay of up to 90 days in a period of 180 days and is usually processed in 15 days.
- This visa costs €60 for applicants 12 years and above, €35 for children between 6-11 and is free for children under 6.
Sweden Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- For Malians wishing to carry out business in Sweden, they will need to apply for a business visa.
- The business visa is a short-stay visa and permits a stay of no longer than 90 days within a 180-day period.
- With the business visa, its holders can attend business meetings, trade fairs and take part in conferences in Sweden.
- An invitation letter from the company in Sweden is needed for this visa application.
- The invitation letter should contain the purpose and the duration of your trip. This letter should be on the company's letterhead.
- If the inviting company is taking care of your financial expenses, it should be stated in the letter.
- A notarized copy of the business registration certificate of the inviting company is needed to prove the company is licensed to carry out business in Sweden.
- If there exist previous trade relations between your company and the Swedish company, you are required to provide proof of this. This could be bills of lading, customs clearance, receipts of payment or any similar documents.
- If employed, a letter from your employer in Mali, stating awareness and allowance of leave, as well as your position, salary, and date of return to work are needed while applying for this visa.
- Please note that as a business traveler, you are not allowed to seek public funds while in the country nor can you receive payment for any services rendered while you are there.
- You should submit your visa application in person as your biometric data will be collected at the point of submission.
- This visa costs €60 for applicants 12 years and above, €35 for children between 6-11 and is free for children under 6.
Sweden Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The study visa allows foreigners to travel to Sweden for the purpose of studying for more than three months. The student visa is a long-stay visa.
- To apply for this visa, you must have gotten admission to study in a Swedish learning institution.
- You must also apply for a residence permit that will allow you to live in Sweden for the duration of your studies in the country.
- Proof that you can cater to your expenses in Sweden for the duration of your study is necessary. This proof could be in the form of your bank statements for the last six months, or that of your sponsor accompanied with a sponsorship letter.
- If you are the recipient of a scholarship, student aid or similar grant, you are required to provide documents supporting this, showing your name, the monthly amount you are entitled to and the period during which you will receive the fund.
- If you are not going to study on a scholarship, you need to pay a portion of the fee before submitting your application for the permit and provide proof of payment.
- For students studying medical-related courses, you must provide the decision on your admission as a doctoral student with information about the time of admission as well as a certificate with the details of the doctoral studies, issued by the university.
- You must also provide proof that you have comprehensive health insurance in Sweden.
- You are to pay an application fee to obtain the student residence permit. For children below the age of 18, the permit costs 500 SEK while adults must pay 1,000 SEK. This amount can be paid with a debit card online at the same time you fill out an application or you can pay while submitting your visa application at the embassy.
