Basic Travel Requirements for Mauritanians visiting France
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a French Visa.
- An original Mauritanian international passport with the validity of three months and at least two blank pages for stamps and must have been issued within the last 10 years.
- The visa application form duly signed and dated.
- Copies of identical passport-sized photographs which shows the full face of the visa applicant. The applicant’s face must not be covered with a veil or anything of such.
- Original bank statement from the last three months prior to the visa application. This bank statement must be obtained directly from the bank and not published via the internet.

France Medical Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The France Medical Visa is issued to foreigners who are seeking medical care in France.
- To be eligible for this visa, the patient condition must be the one that cannot be local health centers in Mauritania
- Applicants of the Medical Visa are expected to provide a letter of agreement with the hospital in France which has agreed to take up their treatment in France. The agreement should state the date and duration of the treatment and the estimated cost of the treatment.
- All visa applicants are required to provide a declaration that they are capable of making additional payments in case of any unforeseen additional medical expenses.
- You are to provide a medical certificate from a recognized doctor or medical institution in Mauritania confirming that the medical treatment required by the patient is unavailable in the country.
- The applicant’s medical doctor in Mauritania must state in detail, the type of medical care required by the patient.

- Employees are required to present the certificate of employment issued to them by their employer or a copy of their most recent employment contract.
- If the applicant of this visa is a trader, he/she should provide sufficient proof that he/she is duly registered in the commercial register.
- Farmers are expected to provide their farmer’s card and a document which shows the declaration of their annual income.

France Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Mauritanian students visiting France for academic purposes can applicants for this visa.
- There are three types of French student visa, they are: Schengen student visa(short-stay), Visa to sit entrance exams, Temporary long-stay visa and long-stay visa.
- Schengen student visa is a short-stay visa issued to students whose studies is within three(3) months and will not be spending more than the 3 months.
- Visa to sit entrance exams is for students who want to sit one or more university exams.
- Temporary long-stay visa is a temporary student visa that let you stay and study in France for up to six months.
- Long-stay visa is a visa for students whose course of study is more than six months, and it acts as a residence permit that last for the duration of your study.
- It is an important prerequisite for applicants to be in possession of a valid travel insurance. Failure to have this document may result in visa refusal.
- You are expected to provide proof of minimum resources which amount to about €615 monthly, including the amount of the gratuity.
- Foreigners are to provide an official acceptance letter onto accredited program you are going to study in any of the French institution.
- Your letter must entail your details, details of your program of study and the start and end dates of study. All the information must be provided in an official letterhead paper of the institution you are attending in France.
- You are to provide a proof of accommodation and proof of your proficiency in French for those travelling to study French-language as their course.
- It is important you make a ‘declaration of entry’ at a police station or to a border inspection personnel on entry into the country.
- The visa application fee is €60.
- Non-citizens of Mauritania are to ensure they are in possession of a valid copy of their residence permit. If their permit has expired, they are expected to provide a document which shows that they have applied for a renewal of the residence permit.
- This visa type must be validated by the Office Francaise de l’Immigration et de l’Integration (OFII). This is done by sending a form to the OFII received along with the visa with the address of residence in France.
- To successfully validate this visa, you are required to undergo a medical examination and also attend an introductory meeting.
- The tax required for validation is €58.
