Entry Requirements

  • Mauritians can visit Montserrat without visa for a maximum period of 3 months provided they tender a valid passport.
  • Inability to tender a valid passport limits their stay to 14 days.
  • Extension of  one's period of stay can be done by applying to the Montserrat Immigration Department.
  • Visitors are expected to possess enough money to cover their expenses throughout their stay.
  • Mauritians are required to show guarantee of return through possession of a return ticket.
  • Visitors around 17 years old and above are permitted to carry 1.14 litres of alcohol, 6 ounces of perfume and 50 cigars/200 cigarettes only.
  • Failure to adhere to the instructions of entry would cause such offender to be deported.
  • Mauritians travelling with pets (dogs and cats) should possess  veterinary certificate of good health issued in their home country.
  • Visitors are expected to show proof of vaccination against Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A / B, Rabies, Chicken pox, Mumps and Typhoid.
  •  1 dose of Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) should be administered to minors below 11 months before travel.

Yes they do.The Soufrière Hills Volcano on the Caribbean island of Montserrat began erupting in 1995 and the eruption is ongoing. However,the activity of the volcano is monitored by the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO), which was set up in response to the eruption in 1995.


Is Montserrat safe?

Montserrat is generally safe and has a relatively low crime rate. However,  the Monteserrat Volcano Observatory restricts visitors from travelling to the "Exclusion Zone" towards the south end of the Island for safety reasons.

The major means of transportation are through minibuses taxis and water taxis. There are no railway services in Montserrat.
