The original inhabitants of New Caledonia were the Kanak people. All the citizens of New Caledonia have French nationality and have the right to vote for the president of France.

The weather in New Caledonia is usually hot and humid from November to April and a cooler dry season from June to September. On very rare occasions, cyclones may hit the territory. It is unpredictable but occurs between February and April.

• Parc Provincial de la Rivière Bleue: This is a reserve for many species of birds. There are also gigantic Kaori trees there. It is a good place for site seeing.
• Anse Vata: This is a popular beach in New Caledonia and it is located in the capital city Noumea. It is a very good place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. There are hotels, restaurants and shopping centers close to the beach.
• Aquarium des Lagons: This aquarium contains some species found in New Caledonian waters like sea snakes, stone fish, turtles, sharks etc. There are a variety of hotels for you to stay in when you visit New Caledonia. About 148 hotels, the bulk of which is located in the capital city Noumea. The best time to visit New Caledonia is from June to September.
