With excellent infrastructure, a well-educated work-force, and a strategic location between central and Southeastern Europe, Slovenia's economy shows so much promise. The country's capital city Ljubljana was founded in Roman times and today, its university has over 50,000 students. 

One of the succeeding states of Former Yougoslavia, Slovenia became the first republic to split and became a sovereign state. As a member of the Schengen agreement, Slovenia can issue a Schengen visa.

Slovenia Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Tourist visa is issued to individuals who are travelling to Slovenia for leisure or tourism.
  • It can also be used to visit friends and relatives residing in the country.
  • For applicants travelling with a tour agency, a letter from the organizer is required.
  • This visa is a 90-day visa and can only be extended under special circumstances as determined by the immigration officer.
  • After every 90 days stay, you have to be out of the country for another 90 days before you will be allowed to re-enter.
  • Previous visas issued should be presented. They are not be stapled or glued to the passport, but bonded with a rubber band.
  • Visa fees vary for applicants depending on their ages. Adults pay 60 Eur, children between 6-12 years pay 35 Eur while for children younger than 6 years, visa is issued at no cost.
  • Invitation letter from the person you intend to visit in Slovenia is required. The invitation letter should state the purpose of the visit and the relationship between both parties.
  • A bank statement, paycheck or salary slip of the applicant, issued not more than 6 months from the application date should be presented.
  • Tourists must have a form of accommodation for the duration of their stay in Slovenia. If you will stay with a relative or friend, the host should present a cover letter, introducing the applicant and stating the duration of the trip, accommodation address and contact details.
  • Proof of the applicant’s civil status such as marriage certificate, childbirth certificate or proof of assets in home country is required.
  • Overstaying your visa is illegal and violators will be fined.
  • All applicants are to have a medical insurance certificate that will be valid for the duration of the trip. The certificate should be worth at least 30,000 Eur.
  • It is possible for the immigration office to deny an applicant a visa without any reason and the decision is irreversible.

Slovenia Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • Foreign nationals with the aim of engaging in business-related activities such as signing and negotiating contracts, attend meetings and purchase business materials are eligible for this visa.
  • Slovenia business visa is valid for 180 days, however, individuals are not allowed to stay for longer than 90 days.
  • An invitation letter from the inviting Slovenia company, stating the name and address of the company, the applicant’s proposed date of travel and exit, reasons for the visit is required.
  • If you are employed, you are to provide your employment contract as proof along with a certificate of no-objection. 
  • The no-objection certificate from your employer should state that your employer is aware of your trip and has given you an official leave for the trip duration.
  • Self-employed applicants who own businesses should submit a copy of their business license and income tax return (ITR)
  • If both the host company in Slovenia and the applicant have previous trade relations, proof of these events must be provided.
  • The applicant’s employer or partner company must claim responsibility of any expense incurred during the trip in the letter of invitation.
  • A bank statement not older than 6 months should be presented by whoever will cover the expenses.
  • Generally, it costs 60 Eur for a Slovenia business visa. However, for individuals that are 25 years or younger, business visa for seminars, conferences, and events are free of charge.
  • The host company in Slovenia should present an original copy of Memorandum and Article of Association (registered with joint-stock companies) Trade License (first issued and present renewal), Proprietorship/Partnership documents.
  • The immigration officer who will certify your passport on re-entry into Slovenia will determine how much you would be fined if you overstayed your previous visa.

Slovenia Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is granted to a third-country national wishing to enter Slovenia for the purpose of studying.
  • Holders of this visa can participate in researches, training and internships.
  • The processing time for this visa is 15 days or lesser excluding public holidays.
  • Occasionally, a physical interview by the Consul is required.
  • A Slovenia student visa is usually valid for 90 days but if your course of study is longer than that then you can apply for a long-stay study visa.
  • Processing of a long-stay study visa can only be done from the applicant’s home country. Therefore after the initial student visa application, the individual has to travel back and apply for a long-stay study visa.
  • A recent, official and signed acceptance letter from a recognized school in Slovenia should be included in the required documents.
  • Evidence of where you will stay for the duration of your study should be presented.
  • The accommodation could be a dormitory contract signed by both the applicant and an official of the dormitory.
  • Students can also stay in a rented apartment. The individual will therefore have to submit a contract specifying the address and details about the facility and the landlord.
  • Working while holding this visa is not allowed. Although, holders of long-stay study visa permits can work for a limited number of hours per week.
  • It is possible to be fined the complete 1200 euros if you overstay your visa by even one day. This decision is solely that of the immigration officer.
  • There is no age limit for individuals who want to apply for a student visa.
  • Applicants are to present proof of their academic record and qualifications for previous degrees.
  • For minors, birth certificate, a declaration of consent from both parents or guardians and documents signed by the minor's parents are required.
  • It is advisable that you apply for your visa at least three months to 15 days before your trip.
  • If your visa is denied, money paid for visa processing will not be refunded.
