Basic Travel Requirements for Rwandans visiting Austria

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Austrian Visa.

  • Your visa application form must be correctly filled in English, signed and stamped.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after intended exit date from Austria. It must have 2 blank pages for visa and must not have been issued for more than 10 years ago.
  • Two recent passport photographs that meet the Schengen visa application requirements.
  • Minors are required to present their birth certificates and a letter of consent signed by both parents.
  • The applicant is required to present a valid National ID or residence permit to prove residence in Rwanda.
  • Travel insurance that covers medical emergencies up to a minimum of €30,000 is essential.
  • Travel itinerary showing entry and exit dates from Austria.
  • Proof of sponsorship which could either be recent bank statement or a letter from your host in Austria affirming full financial responsibility during your stay in Austria.
  • Documentation showing status either as an employee, student or business owner. This is to prove that the applicant has incentives to return to Rwanda.
  • Proof of accommodation. This could be hotel booking or an invitation letter from an host in Austria detailing purpose and duration of travel.
  • You might be required to submit a cover letter mentioning every detail of your trip and that of travelling companions.
  • All documents must be drawn up in or translated into English or German.
  • The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you intend to travel. You should apply no later than 15 working days in advance.
  • This visa costs €60 for Rwandans 12 years and above, €35 for children between 6-11 and is free for children under 6.

Austria Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The travel visa is for applicants who visit Austria for purposes ranging from tourism, business, work and study for a short period of 3 months.
  • With this visa you can also visit family and friends in Austria.
  • Your passport must be valid for a period of at least 3 months after your last day of stay in Austria. It should have at least 2 blank pages.
  • A valid Rwandan resident permit for at least 3 months after last day of trip is required for non-citizens.
  • Two recent coloured passport sized photographs are needed.
  • If you are visiting a friend or relative, you'll need an invitation letter from your host in Austria.
  • For business invitations, a representative of the host company in Austria has to file an application with the local authority responsible for visas and residence permits for Austria.
  • Documentation affirming purpose and duration of trip is required. It could be an offer letter of employment or an admission letter to study in Austria.
  • Proof of family ties that show you have an incentive to return to Rwanda might be required for this visa type.
  • You'll need to submit full round trip reservation to avoid overstaying in Austria.
  • Proof of accommodation in Austria is necessary. This could be in the form of a hotel reservation or an affirmation that you'll be accommodated by your host in Austria. 
  • Applicants must show  proof they have enough funds to last them the entire duration of stay. For this, the applicant is expected to provide an up-to-date transaction history of last three months as close to the application date as possible.
  • Travel insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000 is required. This is to take care of  any possible health problems the applicant might encounter in Austria.
  • You're to leave Austria before the expiration of your visa.
  • Applicants are advised to apply well in advance, at least 3 weeks before the intended departure date.
  • This visa is usually processed for about 15 days.
  • This visa costs €60 for 12 year olds and above, €35 for children between 6-11 and is free for children under 6.

Austria Transit Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • This visa is for those who need to transit through Austrian airports to reach their non-Schengen travel destination country.
  • You'll need to present a valid visa and flight ticket of your final destination country while applying for this visa.
  • Minors are required to submit an unabridged original copy of their birth certificate and signed letter of consent from their parents. 
  • Receipt of paid visa application fee is required to be submitted by applicant.
  • You are not allowed to study or take up any kind of employment during your time in the country.
  • The visa is valid for 24 hours.
  • You are required to exit the country before the visa expires.
  • Rwandans will not be granted an extension to this visa.
  • This visa costs €60 and usually takes about 15 days to process.

Austria Visitor Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Austrian National visa is for applicants hoping to stay longer in the country.
  • This visa allows you stay up to 6 months in Austria. If you intend to stay longer than 6 months, you'll need to apply for a resident permit while applying for this visa.
  • The National visa cannot be extended in Austria. It is usually given to applicants that intend to do long term work, study or research while in Austria.
  • You'll need to provide documents supporting purpose of trip. This document could be in the form of a letter of employment from an Austrian organization or a letter of admission from a learning institution in Austria.
  • With this visa, you can visit other Schengen countries for up to 90 dayss.
  • This visa costs €150.
