Basic Travel Requirements for Rwandans visiting Canada

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Canadian Visa.

  • A Rwandan passport valid for at least six months from the period you intend to arrive Canada and must have two blank pages too which would be available for visa stamp.
  • A fully signed and completed Canada Visa application.
  • If a minor is traveling to Canada from Rwanda, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form. 
  •  Three colored passport-size photographs (50 mm wide X 70 mm high) taken in white background.
  • Travel documents are required.
  • A proof of financial capability.
  • A proof of accommodation/hotel reservations 
  • A copy of a return flight ticket 
  • A police report to prove the applicant does not have a criminal record.
  • Medical insurance that covers the a supposed medical expenses during the duration of your stay. 
  • Documents which confirms the purpose of the travel and the applicant’s ties to the home country.

Canada is a parliamentary and constitutional democracy, the Elizabeth ll serves as its queen while a prime minister is the chair of the Cabinet and head of government.  


The Canadian economy is the tenth-largest in the world. It has a mixed economy system.  Canada is a net exporter of energy having  13th percent of the global oil reserve which makes it the third-largest share after Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

Canada Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Canadian Tourist Visa enables tourists, organ donors, business visitors and extended family members to travel to Canada for sight-seeing and tourism purposes
  • With a Canadian Tourist Visa, the holder is able to participate in numerous festivals, professional networking events and all year-round attractions. 
  • The Canadian tourist visa is a temporary immigration option. It is also known as Canadian Visitor Visa or Canadian Temporary Resident visa (TRV). 
  • The Canadian Tourist Visas is sub-divided into  two types: Single-entry and multiple entry.
  • The Single-entry Canadian Tourist visa allows Rwandans to gain entry into Canada only once. After the holder leaves Canada, he/she is expected to apply for a new Canadian visa to able to enter Canada again. 
  • While the multiple-entry enables applicants to enter Canada as many times as possible within the visa’s six months validity, without the need to reapply for every single entry. 
  • The Canada tourist visa is issued for a 60 days validity. 
  • You are expected to prove your financial status, which shows your capacity to handle your expenses during the duration of your stay in Canada. 
  • A medical certificate confirming your  good health status  and to convince the officials at Embassy to approve your visa. 
  • As an applicant of Canadian tourist visa, you are to provide the necessary documents which confirms your residence outside Canada and binding ties i.e an employment, that will ensure you return home after your visit to Canada.  
  • An affidavit to prove that under no circumstance would you undertake any employment or intend to work in Canada.  
  • A police report  from authorities in Rwanda that clears you of any criminal record will be required during the visa application process. 
  • You will have to provide the officials at the embassy with the paid receipt of the visa application fee before issuance of the visa. 
  • An international passport with not less than six months  validity. 
  • Applicants are expected to apply 45 days before the intended travel day. 

Canada Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Canadian work visa permits Rwandans to take up paid employment in Canada.
  • You must have be employed by a company in Canada before applying for a Canada work permit.  
  • The Canada work visa is issued under the Temporary Foreign Work Program (TFWP).  
  • A letter from your employer in Canada  confirming your employment should be provided. The letter should state the address of the company, the position you have been employed and the duration of your visit.
  • The job offer you have been given must be approved by the Canadian government through the Labour Market Impact Analysis Process.
  • An offer of employment from a Canadian employer is usually required before the worker may be granted a Temporary Work Permit by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
  • A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) may  be needed in order  for you to gain entry into Canada.
  • Before a Temporary Work Permit can be issued, the Canadian employer who wishes to hire a temporary foreign worker may need to apply for and be granted a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)by ESDC.
  • If the ESDC is not  satisfied that the no Canadian citizen or permanent residents are available to do the job, then it may not grant a positive LMIA. 
  • Work Permits may be issued by Canadian immigration officials without the LMIA requirement in a limited number of situations.
  • Once the LMIA is granted, the Canadian employer can provide a temporary job offer to the foreign worker.
  • When a Temporary Work Permit is issued, it is usually  for a period of time ranging from a few days to a few years.
  • The  process of applying for a Work Permit involves  the Canadian employer receiving government permission to hire outside Canada. Once this permission has been granted, the designated employee then applies  for his or her Work Permit.
  • Before you apply for a Canadian work visa, you have to be fluent in English language.
  • Receipt of paid visa application fees should be presented during the visa application process.
  • A proof of good health condition should be provided.
  • Once you have been granted a work permit, your family members may accompany and immigrate with you. Your spouse’s eligibility depends on the nature of your job.  
  • With a work permit, you become eligible to obtain a permanent Canadian Residence.

Canada Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • A student visa  enables Rwandans to be enrolled in one of the higher institutions in the Canada.
  • If you are applying for a Canadian student visa, you must have been accepted to study in a Canadian school
  • You will need to obtain a Canadian study permit to study in Canada, which will serve as a Canadian student visa for the duration of your stay.
  • You are allowed to renew your visa during your stay in Canada once you have obtained a study permit. 
  •  An study permit also allows you to work part-time on campus as a  full-time student registered at an accredited higher education institution.
  • The study permit also you to work off-campus, maybe as a co-op or an intern as part of your program, stay in Canada as a permanent resident or find work after you graduate
  • You can apply for a Canadian study permit either online or through a paper application, which can be obtained from the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website.
  • You are to provide a copy of your criminal record in form of a police clearance certificate.
  • Paper applications typically take about twice as long, and it’s always recommended to check the processing times well in advance.
  • Rwandans intending to study in Canada are to provide proof of medical fitness.
  •  Bio-metric fingerprints are necessary during the application process.
  • Letter of acceptance from the institution you have been accepted to should be presented during the visa application process.
  • You will have to show  a proof of your proficiency in the English language which can be  accessed from your TOEFL or IELTS tests results.
  • The students applying for a Canadian student visa are to provide proof of part or full payment of tuition fees.
  • Original transcripts and certificates from previous schools are to provided before the issuance of a visa.
  • If you have been awarded a scholarship, you are required to have proof of the awarded scholarship .
  • You are expected to show proof of your willingness to return back to your country. 
  •  A proof of paid visa application fee should be presented before you can be granted this visa.
  • If your visa expires before the expiry of your visa, you are free to apply for an extension to cover the period of your study.
  •  You have to show a proof of accommodation for the duration of your stay in the Canada.
  • Travelers must undergo a medical checkup and ensure they are in good health before they travel to the country.
  • A proof  of financial capacity which  covers  all your expenses during the duration of your stay.

Canada Official Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The official visa  was created for diplomats and officials  of foreign countries. 
  • Only head of state, Consular officers , Ministries African union representatives are eligible to apply for this type of visa. 
  • An official letter from Rwandan government is required and it should state your  position, the duration of stay and purpose of your visit.
  • With this  type of visa, you are allowed to stay within the period you have  itinerary of official duties or responsibilities. You are not allowed to overstay your visa or take up a new employment.  
  • An official invitation from the Canadian government will be required during the processing.  
  • A diplomatic visa is valid for a duration of three months. 
  • If you are a holder of a diplomatic  visa, you are allowed to bring your spouse or children who are under 22 years old. If your children are over 22 years old, then they may accompany you only if they are full-time students.
