Application requirements

Documents Rwandan applicants need to provide.

  • Travelers are required to fulfill all the statements required in order to apply for a visa and submit all documents with a signed copy of the application form to the embassy/consulate
  • A completed application form.
  • Two attached photos; passport format which must be recent and of a white background.
  • Copies of your passport and previous visas are required.
  • A copy of your return ticket reservation(it is not recommended to purchase your ticket before your visa purchase).
  • Travel medical visa insurance with a minimum of 30,000 EURO coverage within Finland and the entire Schengen area.
  • A cover letter stating your purpose to Finland and reasons why.
  • A copy of your return tickets reservation dates and flight number, specifying your entry and exit from Finland(it is not recommended to purchase your ticket before you obtain your Visa- if not otherwise required). Learn how to look for a round trip reservation.
  • Proof of accommodation for the whole duration of the trip. This could be either a hotel reservation or a friend or family's house address.
  • Proof of civil status(Marriage certificate, Birth certificate of your children, Death certificate of your spouse or ration card).
  • Means of subsistence - proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay; this could be your bank account statement.
  • Employment contract; if employed, bank statement of 6 months showing salary received from employer,Income Tax Return(ITR) form or certificate of income tax deducted at the source of salary. If self employed; a copy of your business license, company bank statement of the latest 6 months, Income Tax Return(ITR).
  • For students; a letter of agreement from your school, and proof of enrollment.
  • If retired; pension statement of at least 6 months.

Visa type details

Tourist visa

  • If you're going as a school group or a group of young adults participating in either culture or sports or religion, you must tender an invitation letters from the organizers or sponsors of the event, requesting your participation in that event.
  • Provide a copy of your hotel bookings.
  • A proof of financial ability. At present, a minimum of 30 EURO per day is required for your stay in Finland.
  • A copy of your round trip tickets or tour tickets.
  • A valid travel insurance with at least 30,000 EURO which must have been acquired from an insurance company approved by Schengen countries.
  • For minors, a birth certificate and letter of consent signed by parents or guardians.
  • Marriage certificate or certificate of death of your spouse.
  • If retired, proof of retirement funds.
  • You are not allowed to seek public funds while in Finland.
  • The cost of tourist visa for children between the ages of 6 and 11 costs 35 EURO

Student visa

  • The student visa is for students who aim to study in a Finnish learning institution.

  • Admission letter from institution of study.
  • Proof of accommodation
  • All official documents are to be legalized consecutively by the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy of Finland.
  • All documents submitted for this visa application must contain original and 2 clear photocopies for application.
  • Documentation showing that you've been accepted into an institution in Finland is required.
  • You'll also need to show proof that you satisfy the conditions for access to studying in Finland. This proof could be academic results or previously obtained learning certificates.
  • As an international student, you’ll need to apply for a national long-stay visa which allows you to stay longer than 90 days in Finland.
  • Applicants are to provide proof of travel insurance with a minimum coverage of 30,000 covering any medical emergency for the duration of their stay.
  • A medical certificate stating you don’t carry any diseases that may endanger public health (such as TB, diseases that require quarantine and other infectious diseases) is also required.
  • Proof of financial sustenance for the entire stay in Finland is needed. This proof could be a valid scholarship offer, recent bank statement, letter attesting sponsorship and a valid ID of your sponsor.
  • An enrollment certificate allowing attendance of courses in Finland is required.
  • You can work part-time when school is in session and full-time when the school is on break as long as it doesn't affect your studies.
  • This visa can be extended to cover the duration of your study in the country.
  • Medical certificate issued not more than 6 months to the date of application is important for this application.
  • A certificate of good conduct not more than 6 months to the date of the application is required to show you've not been convicted for any crimes.
  • For minors, a letter of authorization signed by both parents and the original copy of your birth certificate should be presented.
  • The visa costs €180.

Business visa

  • This visa is given to those who are planning to visit Finland for temporary work related purposes. However, do keep in mind that this does not grant the applicant to take up new employment in Finland. The documents required for applying for a business visa are:
  • Invitation letter from the Finnish company you will be visiting and their detailed address along with your travel dates
  • A letter from your employer stating/allowing your business travel
  • Bank statement from the last 6 months
  • Proprietorship/Partnership documents
  • The invitation letter must also mention how the expenses of the applicant is going to be covered during his/her travel. It must be made clear whether it will be sponsored by the employer or the Finnish company.

Medical visa

  • A local medical report
  • A medical attestation from the hospital or doctor in Finland, confirming the date of your appointment as well as your medical situation
  • A letter from your local medical practitioner stating your medical condition.
  • Payment receipt of medical fees.
  • This visa costs 70 EUROS.
