Basic Travel Requirements for Rwandans visiting Germany

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a German Visa.


  • A completed application form.
  • Two attached photos; passport format which must be recent and of a white background.
  • Copies of your passport and previous visas are required.
  • A copy of your return ticket reservation(it is not recommended to purchase your ticket before your visa purchase).
  • Travel medical visa insurance with a minimum of 30,000 EURO coverage within Finland and the entire Schengen area.
  • A cover letter stating your purpose to Finland and reasons why.
  • A copy of your return tickets reservation dates and flight number, specifying your entry and exit from Finland(it is not recommended to purchase your ticket before you obtain your Visa- if not otherwise required). Learn how to look for a round trip reservation.
  • Proof of accommodation for the whole duration of the trip. This could be either a hotel reservation or a friend or family's house address.
  • Proof of civil status(Marriage certificate, Birth certificate of your children, Death certificate of your spouse or ration card).
  • Means of subsistence - proof of sufficient financial means for the period of stay; this could be your bank account statement.
  • Employment contract; if employed, bank statement of 6 months showing salary received from employer,Income Tax Return(ITR) form or certificate of income tax deducted at the source of salary. If self employed; a copy of your business license, company bank statement of the latest 6 months, Income Tax Return(ITR).
  • For students; a letter of agreement from your school, and proof of enrollment.
  • If retired; pension statement of at least 6 months.

  • There are certain vaccinations that are recommended for you by the CDC and WHO if you are planning a trip to Germany such as; hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rabies, meningitis, polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), chickenpox, shingles, pneumonia and influenza.
  • You are allowed to carry grains such as rice and so on, baked items are also allowed. Overall, you can carry packaged items unless it is meat or anything poultry.
