Basic Travel Requirements for Rwandans visiting New Caledonia

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a New Caledonian Visa.

  • A Rwandan Passport valid for the duration of stay
  • A proof  of financial of sufficient funds to cover the  travel expenses. 
  • Two identical photo passports taken in a white background (35mmx45mm)
  • A  work contract is to be submitted if you intend to get a work permit in North Caledonia. 
  • A duly completed  North Caledonia application form. 
  • A yellow fever vaccination certificate is to be submitted. 
  • A copy of travel itinerary.  
  • A travel and health insurance coverage is to be provided.
  • A copy of return ticket to serve as evidence of your return to your home country.

New Caledonia is a french territory.  So its citizens have the French Nationality and can vote for the president of France. They have the right to vote in elections to the European Parliament.  It is governed by a 54-member Territorial Congress, a legislative body composed of members of three provincial assemblies. The French State is represented in the territory by a High Commissioner. At a national level, New Caledonia is represented in the French Parliament by two deputies and two senators.

New Caledonia Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The New Caledonia tourist visa is a visa for Rwandans visiting New Caledonia for tourism and pleasure purposes. 
  • The New Caledonia tourist visa is also known as short stay visa. 
  • The tourist visa allows travelers to visit family and relatives for a very short period of time.  
  • The holders of this type of visa can’t engage in a professional activity unless you are eligible to be part of a holiday programme.  
  • A Rwandan passport valid for at least three months before the return date to the home country, 
  • A travel insurance certificate  which covers repatriation or any emergency hospital treatment would have to be provided by the applicant.  Minimum coverage should be within 30 000€. 
  • A letter stating the purpose of your visit to New Caledonia and the duration of stay is to be submitted to the New Caledonia embassy. 
  • A return flight ticket which would be a proof of your intended return back to your home country is to be presented among other documents during the application process. 
  • The duration of the visa is for three months or less than three months. 
  • A proof of financial status to prove your ability to sponsor all your expenses for the duration of your stay in New  Caledonia. 
  • A medical certificate  of your vaccination against yellow fever  issued a certified medical doctor from Rwanda is required. 
  • Travelers has to enter New Caledonia with visa that is valid upon arrival.

New Caledonia Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements



  • Rwandans who want to work in New Caledonia are eligible for this type of visa. 
  • The visa is also known as long stay visa. 
  • The holders of a New Caledonia work visa are permitted to engage in any professional activity. Self-employed individuals, employees or business owners who have a New Caledonia work visa  are allowed to be involved in any a professional activity. 
  • As a self-employed person you can come to New Caledonia to meet any of your commercial and professional obligations. You can start or take part in any self-employed activity.  
  • If you are a employee posted to New Caledonia  by your employer to provide a service, you will granted a work visa.
  • As an employee with a New Caledonia work visa, you are allowed to be part of any intra-group mobility while still being contractually attached to your employer as a Intra Corporate Transferee. 
  • When you are a employee with a work visa you are allowed to be part of any professional course in a training organisation or company. 
  • For certain professionals (doctors, teachers,e.t.c), they are to meet some conditions to be able to be part of their activity. 
  • The duration of stay of the work visa  for more than three months.  
  • The visa can be extended on the approval of the New Caledonia authority. 
  • Before your entry to New Caledonia, you are expected to present  a visa valid for a long stay in New Caledonia to the Consulate or  Embassy of North Caledonia.
