Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to file my visa application in person?

You must visit the embassy in person in order to submit your application and verbally explain the purpose and circumstance of your travel. In the case of an underage person, the application is submitted by their legal guardian.

Can I apply for visa at the Slovak consulate if I intend to visit other Schengen countries?

If the main destination of your travel is Slovakia, the ideal place to submit your visa application is the Slovak consulate.

Can I be denied entry into Slovakia even though I have a valid Schengen visa in my passport?

A Schengen visa allows you to travel to any country in the Schengen area but it does not automatically entitle you to enter the Schengen area. You may have to provide certain information at the border. It is recommended that you carry with you copies of the documents you presented when you applied for the visa.

What happens if my visa application is denied?

You will be notified in writing about the decision and motivation behind the refusal of a visa. You, however, have the right to appeal if your application is refused. The appeal must be lodged at the embassy that issued the decision within 15 days of the receipt of that decision.

Can I extend my visa in Slovakia?

It is possible, only in exceptional cases, to extend a short-stay visa for a maximum of another 90 days over a six-month period. The validity of the visa can be extended if you cannot leave the Slovak Republic due to natural disaster, humanitarian grounds or a serious personal reason. In any other case, such as tourism or family visit, the visa cannot be extended.

Is Slovakia a good holiday destination?

Slovakia is a popular destination among lovers of outdoor activities. The country has many caves scattered around and many more are being discovered in the present day. With nine national parks and various nature preserves, tourists are guaranteed lots of fun during their time in the country.
