Entry Requirements
- Any intending Rwanda traveller planning a trip to Sri Lanka needs to apply and obtain an ETA prior to arrival in Sri Lanka for a visit up to 30 days.
- An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Sri Lanka by air.
- If you are planning a short visit to Sri Lanka, you can submit your ETA application online to the Department of Immigration & Emigration.
- ETA application can be submitted online or on arrival to Sri Lanka.
- Visitors are required to present a passport valid for the duration of stay in the country
- Rwandan passports must have at least one page for entry stamps.
- A Yellow Fever Certificate is requested from visitors on arriving in Sri Lanka.
- Travellers must obtain a previous permit from the Department of Animal Production and Health before bringing any live animal into Sri Lanka.
- Cats and dogs must be accompanied by an official certificate of veterinary health as well as a certificate of vaccination against rabies which is issued by the veterinary authorities.
- All travellers are not required to pay any airport tax upon departing from the airport.
- The Importation of local currencies beyond 5,000 LkR and the Exportation of local currencies beyond 15,000 LKR is prohibited.
- Foreign currency over USD 15,000 must be declared upon entry.
- Sri Lanka uses India Standard Time zone (GMT+5:30), hence, Sri Lanka is 3 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Rwanda.
- The estimated flight time from Rwanda to Sri Lanka is roughly 6 hours.
- Although the country is relatively small in size, it has the highest biodiversity density in Asia.
- Sri Lanka has one of the most literate populations among developing nations in the world.
- Sri Lanka boasts of 24 wildlife reserves, which are home to a wide range of native species such as Asian elephants, leopards, sloth bears, the unique small loris, a variety of deer, the purple-faced langur, the endangered wild boar, porcupines and Indian Pangolins.
- Sinhala and Tamil are the two official languages of Sri Lanka and English is regarded as its link language.
- Sri Lanka is a multi-religious country but Buddhists comprise 70 per cent of the population.
- Dishes include rice and curry, pittu, Kiribati, wholemeal roti, string hoppers wattalapam (a rich pudding of Malay origin made of coconut milk jaggery, cashew nuts, eggs, and spices including cinnamon and nutmeg), kottu and hoppers.
