Basic Travel Requirements for Rwandans visiting Taiwan
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Taiwanese Visa.
- An original Rwandan passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure from Taiwan
- Duly completed visa application form.
- 2 colour passport-size photographs (2x2 in).
- Proof of hotel or private accommodation for the entire duration of stay in Taiwan.

General Requirements for Taiwan Visa

Taiwan Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Taiwan's tourist visa is issued to foreign nationals who are not from visa-exempt countries that intend to travel to the country for tourism, vacation, sightseeing, visiting friends/relatives or other leisure activities.
- An original Rwandan passport is required for visa application. Your passport must have at least 2 blank visa pages and a minimum validity of 6 months beyond the date you intend to leave Taiwan.
- A copy of the biodata page of your passport (the first page containing personal details) must also be submitted.
- You are required to fully complete a visa application form and sign it before submitting.
- 2 passport-size photographs must be submitted with your completed visa application form.
- As proof that you intend to leave Taiwan once your visa expires, you are required to provide a copy of your return flight ticket to your country of origin.
- You must be able to cater to all your financial needs for the entire duration of your stay in Taiwan. To show that you can, you have to present your bank account statements of the latest 3 months.
- If you are visiting friends or relatives, you should provide a letter of invitation from your host in Taiwan clearly stating their contact details.
- You are also to provide proof of private accommodation or hotel reservation for the entire duration of your stay in Taiwan.
- If you will be travelling with your spouse and/or children, you must provide their valid travel documents.
- If a minor is travelling alone, they must provide their birth certificate as well as a consent letter signed by both parents or guardians authorising them to travel to Taiwan.
- The Taiwanese tourist visa is valid for 90 days but it can be extended for up to 60 days. To extend your tourist visa visit the National Immigration Agency before your visa expires.
Taiwan Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Rwandans who intend to travel to Taiwan for business purposes such as business meetings, trade fairs, conferences or other business activities are eligible for a Taiwanese business visa.
- Your original Rwandan passport must have at least 2 unused pages and a minimum validity of 6 months.
- You are required to obtain a letter of invitation from a partner company in Taiwan stating the purpose of your visit and how long your visit will be.
- You also need a signed business letter from your employer (company or government ministry) stating the purpose of your travel, the details of the partner business in Taiwan and the nature of your travel. If your employer will be sponsoring your trip, a guarantee should be provided to that effect.
- As proof of your employment, you are to submit a copy of your employment contract and an updated copy of your resume.
- If there exist any previous business relations between your company and the partner company in Taiwan, you should provide proof of these relations.
- You are to provide a copy of your hotel reservation for the entire duration of your stay in Taiwan.
- Your payslips, as well as your bank account statements reflecting your salary, must also be provided.
- If you are travelling with your spouse and/or children, you should provide your marriage certificate and your children's birth certificates.
- You must submit photocopies of all original documents you are to present.
- The Taiwanese business visa permits singe-entry into Taiwan but you can apply for a multiple-entry visa instead if you intend to enter and exit multiple times within a short period of time.
Taiwan Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- You must then submit a fully completed and signed visa application form.
- If your spouse and children will be travelling with you, you are to present their valid travel documents.
- If you are travelling with a minor, the original copy of the minor's birth certificate is required.
- A police report showing that you have no criminal records must be submitted.
Taiwan Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Rwandan students who have received an admission offer to study in a Taiwanese educational institution are eligible for a student visa.
- The Taiwanese student visa is a resident visa and allows its holder to remain in Taiwan for more than 90 days.
- To be issued a student visa you must have a resident permit which can be obtained on your behalf by your educational institution.
- Your Rwandan passport used for your visa application must be valid for at least 6 months.
- You must submit a duly completed and signed visa application form with 2 colour passport-size photographs taken within the last 6 months.
- An official admission letter from a Taiwanese college or university must be presented by the applicant.
- You must a medical report showing that you have no illness that is of public concern.
- You are required to apply for an Alien Resident Certificate and Re-entry Permit at the local office of the Immigration Agency within 15 days of your arrival in Taiwan.
- If you hold a student visa and intend to work in Taiwan, you must present a school report that shows your recent grades along with other relevant documents.
- If you are a minor, you must provide a signed letter of consent from your parents or guardians permitting you to travel to Taiwan.

When is typhoon season in Taiwan?
A typhoon season is an event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation, in which tropical cyclones form in the western Pacific Ocean. In Taiwan, the typhoon season is mostly from April to October. Visitors are advised to not travel to Taiwan during this period if they want to fully enjoy their stay in the country.
How strict are Taiwanese laws?
Like any other country, Taiwan takes its laws and regulations very seriously and violators are always punished. For example, penalties for illegal drug possession, use, or trafficking —including marijuana— are severe, with long jail sentences and heavy fines. In fact, Taiwan has the death penalty for certain violent crimes and drug-related offences. Visitors are advised to adhere strictly to the local laws while in Taiwan.
What languages are spoken in Taiwan?
Several languages are spoken in Taiwan but the primary official language is Taiwanese Mandarin. Some of the other languages include Taiwanese Minnan, Hakka, Hokkien and the Formosan languages. Tourists who speak a little Mandarin will get along just fine.
