Turkmenistan Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The tourist visa allows foreign nationals to travel to Turkmenistan for tourism, sightseeing or other leisure activities.
- You need to have a valid Rwandan passport with at least 6 months validity to apply for a Turkmenistan tourist visa.
- 2 completely filled and signed visa application forms are required to process your visa application. Incomplete application forms may not be processed.
- 2 recent passport-size photographs taken against a light background are also required with the visa application forms.
- Applicants must provide an invitation letter from an approved tour company in Turkmenistan. This means that you have to contact a Turkmenistan tour organiser prior to starting your application process. Without this invitation letter, your application for a tourist visa will not be accepted.
- The tour company you register with will make provisions for your accommodation, food and tour guide. The letter must show your accommodation plan as well as the contact details of the hotel or guesthouse reservation made on your behalf.
- The tour company will also provide you with any additional information you need to have in order to receive your tourist visa; you are advised to follow the instructions given to you.
- You should note that foreigners working in the media, human rights fields or working for political organisations will be not be allowed entry into Turkmenistan.
- Foreigners are also required to pay a tourism tax of US$2 per day for the duration of their stay.
- Your tour guide will be with you for all your outings in Turkmenistan. Going anywhere without your guide, especially outside the capital city, Ashgabat will violate the conditions under which you were issued the tourist visa.
- The tourist visa does not permit its holder to take up any form of work while in Turkmenistan.
- On arrival into the country, foreigners are to pay an arrival tax of US$2 and receive travel entry pass.
Turkmenistan Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The business visa is granted to foreign nationals who intend to travel to Turkmenistan for business purposes.
- You need to have a valid Rwandan passport with at least 6 months validity to apply for a Turkmenistan business visa.
- 2 completely filled and signed visa application forms are required to process your visa application. Incomplete application forms may not be processed.
- 2 recent passport-size photographs taken against a light background are also required with the visa application forms.
- A letter of invitation from the host company and certified by the State Foreign Citizens Registration Service of Turkmenistan is required. You should note that the invitation is valid for only 3 months from the date it was confirmed.
- You are also required to provide a business letter signed by an authorised officer in your company stating the purpose of your travel as well as the duration of your travel to Turkmenistan. The letter, which should state that your employer is aware of your business leave, must also include the contact details of your company.
- You are required to provide proof of employment by submitting your employment contract signed by both you and your Rwandan employer.
- You should also request the certificate of business registration of your partner company in Turkmenistan as it will be required for your visa processing.
- You should note that business in Turkmenistan is often a matter of personal influence and politics and smaller businesses will be required to establish their bona fides before being accepted at the highest levels.

Is Turkmenistan safe to visit?
Turkmenistan is a relatively safe place to visit and the locals are known to be friendly and warm to visitors. You should, however, adhere to the rules and laws of the country.

Where is Turkmenistan located?
Turkmenistan is located in the southwest of Central Asia. It is bordered by Kazakhstan to the northwest, Uzbekistan to the north and east, Afghanistan to the southeast, Iran to the south, and the Caspian Sea to the west.
Do I need to be vaccinated before traveling to Turkmenistan?
It is not mandatory that you should be vaccinated. However, the World Health Organization recommends vaccinations against diphtheria, hepatitis A and B, measles, mumps, polio, rubella, tetanus, typhoid and varicella. If you will be staying in the country for a longer period, you are advised to all get vaccinations against meningitis, rabies and tuberculosis. Note that these are just for safety measures.
