Application requirements

Visa type details

Visitor Visa

  • This visa is issued to travelers who want to go to Norway for reasons such as visiting family, tourism and leisure.
  • Travelers are also issued this visa for business purposes such as signing contracts, attending meetings, conferences and so on.
  • A completely and sincerely filled visa application form is required.
  • The Norway Schengen visa application form can also be filled electronically and then printed out as hard-copies.
  • Before you can hand in your passport and other documentation, you must register your application in the Application Portal. If this is the first time that you are registering an application in the portal, you will first need to create a user account.
  • Once you have registered, you will receive confirmation by email with a cover letter attached. The cover letter will confirm that you have filled in the application form and paid the fee. You need to print this letter and submit it together with the other required documentation.
  • You should apply well in advance and at the latest 15 days before you plan to travel. You can submit your application up to three months before your planned departure.
  • It is advised that travelers buy tickets only after their visas have been granted.
  • Before you can hand in the required documentation, you must register your application online. When you come to hand in your documentation, you will be asked to provide fingerprints.
  • You may be asked to provide additional documentation or to come for an interview.
  • In order to apply for a visa from Sierra Leone, you must either be a citizen of Sierra Leone or legally reside in the country.

Work visa

  • This visa is issued to those who intend to work in Norway.
  • Applicant's travel documents should be valid beyond their intended exit date from Norway.
  • Two passport-sized photos in color with a white background, not older than 6 months are required. The photo size should be 35 x 45 mm.
  • The applicant's employment contract with a company in Norway should be submitted.
  • A current bank statement of the employing company for the last 6 months might be required. It must be stamped and signed by a bank official.
  • The employing company is expected to sign and submit a No-objection certificate.
  • The Income Tax Return (ITR) form or Certificate of Income Tax deducted at the source of salary from the company of employment is also necessary.
  • There should be accommodation provision and proof of it is to be submitted to the embassy.

Student visa

  • Foreigners who want to go to Norway for study purposes are required to get this visa.
  • Applicants' passports should be valid beyond their period of stay in Norway and should have been issued within the last 10 years.
  • Two passport-sized photos in color with a white background, not older than 6 months are required. The photo size should be 35 x 45 mm.
  • An enrollment certificate allowing attendance of courses should be acquired by the applicant and submitted to the embassy.
  • A letter of sponsorship from the applicant's sponsor is required in the case where the applicant is on scholarship.
  • A letter of admission confirmation in an institution in Norway is required at the embassy.
  • Documents proving financial sustenance or support are necessary.

Transit visa

  • The transit visa for Norway is referred to as the Airport Transit Visa (ATV).
  • An Airport Transit Visa (ATV) is required to be able to go through any Schengen state.
  • The ATV type should be the multiple ATV that authorizes several transits through Schengen states.
  • The visa application form for the Schengen Visa should be filled electronically after which the hard copy of the filled form should be printed.
  • Fingerprints are required for a Schengen Visa so the applicant has to be physically present at the embassy during the application.
  • A passport with a validity of at least three months beyond the return date should be submitted alongside the duly completed visa application form.
  • There should be two copies of the passport photo page having the address of the applicant. Two recently taken passport photos should also be attached.
  • Applicants are advised to ensure they bring along all the required documents to the embassy. Incomplete documentation could lead to delay or visa denial.
  • On arrival at the country of transit, you are expected to remain in the international zone of the airport until you are connected to your final destination.
