Application requirements

  • Two recent passport sized photographs taken with a white background which follows the photo specification of a visa application.
  • Completed visa application form which has the necessary signatures.
  • Bank statement which is not older than 3 months from the period of visa application. This is proof that you can cater for yourself for the duration of your stay in the country.
  • Copy of travel itinerary.
  • Valid travel insurance.
  • Return flight ticket to South Africa.
  • Proof of accommodation that covers your stay in Gambia. This may be in form of confirmed hotel reservation in the country.

Tourist visa

  • Foreigners who apply for the tourist visa who visit the country for sightseeing, relaxation and recreation.
  • This visa also serves as a visitor visa. You can visit friends and relatives with this visa.
  • While in the country you are not allowed to take up paid employment.
  • Minors should ensure they are in possession of the original copy of their birth certificate.
  • If you are visiting friends or relatives in the country, you should provide a letter of invitation from your host in Gambia. The home address and telephone number of the host should be included in the letter.
  • For non-South Africans, a copy of your South African stay permit is required.
  • Copies of all the original copies of your documents should be made available as the original copies may not be returned by the embassy.
  • The receipt of your paid visa fees should be provided.
  • You are expected to leave the country at the expiry of your visa.
  • Yellow fever vaccination is required.
  • Immunization against hepatitis A, hepatitis B and meningitis is recommended.

  • You can also negotiate and sign contracts with their partners in the country.
  • A letter of invitation from the company you are visiting in Gambia is required. The company address, purpose and duration of your visit should be clearly stated in the letter.
  • The certificate of business registration of the company you are visiting in Gambia is required.
  • Letter with the official company letterhead from your current employer in South Africa is required. Your employer should state that he/she is aware of your business leave. Your status in the company should be stated in the letter.
  • Minors traveling without their parents should provide a letter of consent which is signed by both parents.
  • You cannot take up paid or unpaid employment with this visa.
  • Certificate of yellow fever vaccination is required to enter Gambia.
