  • South Africans can stay visa free in Laos for a duration of 30 days.
  • Intending visitors can stay on a business or tourist visa. 
  • You can enter Laos on a visa on arrival visa status, which is available on all it's airports in land crossings. 
  • You can extend your visa twice for up to 90 days which would cost 20,000 kip per day plus an application fee. 
  • Your passport must be valid for at least six months. 
  • If you overstay your visa, you must pay $10 per day overstay. 
  • South African passport holders have to pay for their visa which cost between $30 and $42.
  • Tourists visiting parts of Laos other than Vientiane are advised to obtain medication for malaria. Immunisation against Helpatits A & B is also recommended (Dengue fever of DHF).
