Basic Travel Requirements for Thais visiting Tonga

Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Tongan Visa.

  • A Thailand passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
  • Duly completed and signed visa application form.
  • If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
  • Passport-size photographs (2 x 2” dimension) taken in white background.
  • Proof of financial support to cover entire stay in Tonga. This should be in form of a bank statement.
  • Proof of accommodation in form of a hotel reservation.
  • Copy of return flight ticket to show incentive of returning to Thailand.
  • Documentation showing applicant’s ties to home country, e.g. verification from applicant’s employer.

Tonga Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements

  • The Tongan tourist visa is issued to Thais looking to travel to Tonga for tourism and visitation purposes.
  • This visa is valid for 30 days but can be extended to 90 days.
  • Currency restriction for entry into Tonga is Tongan Pa’anga (TOP) $10,000.
  • Visitors are required to have a maximum remittance of TOP $10,000 via bank/financial institution. Approval is required for higher amounts.
  • Thais traveling to Tonga for visitation purposes should provide invitation letters.
  • If you are visiting friends or family, you are required to provide proof of accommodation in form of a hotel reservation.
  • Proof of a return ticket is required. The immigration officer might not allow you to enter the country without one.
  • You are subject to local laws while in Tonga. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested or imprisoned.
  • If traveling with prescription medication, check with the Ministry of Health to ensure the medication is legal and available in Tonga. Always carry your prescription medication in original packaging with your doctor’s prescription.

    • Wearing black in Tonga means that you are in mourning, so it’s wise to avoid wearing this color if you’re not grieving.
    • Tourists are not allowed to travel to Tonga on a Sunday. Tonga follows the sabbath day rule very strictly.
