General Requirements for Germany Visa
Germany Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Ugandans traveling to Germany for tourism purposes will need a German tourist visa.
- The German Schengen tourist visa is valid for 90 days. The visa is also extendable.
- You should submit a confirmation letter from your health insurance stating coverage for emergency medical treatment with a minimum of €30,000.
- Proof of accommodation must be provided. This can be a hotel booking for your whole stay in the Schengen region, or a letter of invitation by a family member or friend residing in any or the Schengen countries.
- Proof of financial means must be presented. This could be in the form of a bank statement not older than three months, OR a letter of sponsorship by another person (Declaration of Commitment).
- A Cover Letter must be provided by the applicant. This personal cover letter should explain the reason why you wish to visit Germany, how long you intend to stay there, and what you will be doing there, amongst others.
- Proof of civil status is required of the applicant. That could be a marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, death certificate of spouse, ration card (if applicable), etc.
- The currency restriction for entry into Germany is €10,000 euros or equivalent.
- Under German law, it is illegal to bring into or take out of Germany any literature, music, or paraphernalia that glorifies fascism, the Nazi past, or the “Third Reich.
- Credit cards are not as widely accepted in Germany. However, ATMs are widely available throughout Germany.

Is Germany safe to travel to?
Germany is very safe. Health and infrastructure are of course modern and well kept up. Violent crime is rare in Germany, although travelers should be more careful in certain sections of larger cities. Petty crime such as pick-pocketing is more common there.

What can I do if they don’t recognize my school-leaving certificate in Germany?
If your secondary school-leaving certificate is not recognized in Germany, you can gain entrance qualification to a German university by completing a foundation course (“Studienkolleg”). You first have to pass an entrance examination to participate in a foundation course.
