Bulgaria is an East European country situated on the Black Sea. It is bordered by Greece and Turkey to the south, Macedonia and Serbia to the west, and Romania to the north. It features ancient cultures like the Thracian fire dancing which is recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. Bulgaria is primarily a Christian nation subscribing to Orthodoxy. Bulgarian cuisine features quality vegetables, dairy products and mild spices. Chicken and pork are the meats most eaten by Bulgarians, lamb is also a specialty with them. Bulgarians also eat quite a lot of seafood. One of the country's national dishes is Shopska, a salad made with chopped tomatoes, cucumber, and parsley.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral: This cathedral was paid for by the people of the city. It was built between 1882 and 1912. This historical site is of great importance to Bulgarians as it was built to honour over 200,000 soldiers who died fighting in the Russo-Turkish war for freedom from the Ottomans.
Krushuna Falls: The tallest of the falls is 20 metres high. They cascade down forming gentle pools. The falls are a magnificent sight nested in a lush, forested landscape.
Vitosha Mountain: This dome shaped mountain is a landmark spot in Bulgaria where people go to escape the city. It has its own hiking routes, ski resort, and promises impeccable views of the city below. The Vitosha nature park (oldest of its kind in the Balkans) draws visitors all year round.
Thracian Tomb of Sveshtari: This historical site was discovered in 1982 when archaeologists uncovered it from underneath a mound. The true spectacle is how wonderfully preserved this very important site is.

One fascinating fact about Bulgarians is that they shake their heads to mean "yes" and nod for "no". Also, the Bulgarian army has never lost a single flag in battle. In 1976, UNESCO declared the ancient Bulgarian calendar as the most accurate in the world.
