Basic Travel Requirements for Cameroonians visiting China
Travelers are required to fulfill the following requirements in order to apply for a Chinese Visa.
- A Cameroonian passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date and must have 2 blank pages for visa stamp.
- A duly completed and signed visa application form.
- If the applicant is a minor, the parents/legal guardians have to sign the form.
- Three passport-size photographs (4.5 x 3.5 cm) taken in white background.
- Travel document must be complete.
- A proof of financial capability to cover travel expenses.
- A proof of accommodation/hotel reservations for the duration of stay
- A copy of return flight ticket.
- Documentation showing applicant’s ties to home country.
- A police report showing the traveler does not have a criminal record.
- A medical insurance that covers the entire duration of stay.
- Documentation confirming the purpose of travel.
- A copy of travel itinerary with up-to-date flight arrival and departure dates.

1.404 billion in 2017. Covering approximately 9,600,000 square
kilometres, it is the third or fourth-largest country by total
area. China’s
political system was based on hereditary Monarchies or dynasties
beginning with the semi-mythical Xia dynasty in 21st Century BCE.
China as a whole was ravaged by feudal warlordism with Japan during World War II. The Chinese civil war resulted in a division of territory in 1949 when the communist party of China led by Mao Zedong established the people’s republic of China on mainland China. Also the Kuomintang led nationalist government retreated to the Island of Taiwan where it governed until 1996 when Taiwan changed to democracy.
China’s economy has been one of the world’s fastest-growing with its annual growth rates consistently above 6 per cent. According to the World bank China’s GDP grew from $150 billion in 1978 to $12.24 trillion in 2017. In 2018, its GDP increased to $13.5 trillion (90 trillion yuan). Since 2010, China has been the country with the world’s second-largest economy by nominal GDP and the largest economy in the world by purchasing power parity in 2014.
China is also the world’s largest exporter and second-largest importer of goods and also the home to some of the world’s largest tech giants such as Huawei, Baidu, Tencent and Alibaba as it is the world’s most technologically advanced nation. Since 2019, China has the highest number of rich people in the world.

General Requirements for China Visa

China Tourist Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Cameroonians travelling to China for tourism purposes are the eligible applicants of this visa.
- Foreign travellers who want to visit their relatives and friends China can do so with this visa. The Chinese tourist visa (L visa) is issued to those who intend to visit China for tourism or leisure.
- The Chinese tourist visa is categorized into three (3), based on the number of entries allowed:
- Single Entry — allows one entry into China with a valid of 30 days to 60 days.
- Double Entry — allows holders of this visa to gain entry into China twice and is valid for 30 days to 60 days. (30 - 60 days).
- Multiple Entry — allows travellers to gain multiple entries and is valid for 180 days to one year.
- The visa lasts for up to 1 year, but does not mean one can stay in China for one straight year. It is left for the embassy to decide how many days you get for each entry.
- The most common tourist visa option available to is the Single Entry Tourist Visa which allows you to leave China and then enter again with the same visa) within its validity of 30 days.
- The duration of stay per visit is at the discretion of the Chinese embassy.
- A proof of financial sufficiency that covers the applicant's duration of stay should be submitted at the Embassy.
- Overstaying your visa is a serious offence and can incur the penalty of a lifetime ban.
- Your host residing in China has to write and sign a letter of invitation for you which is required during the China visa application process. Information on the letter should include the home address, telephone number, as well as a valid means of identification of your host.
- Holders of this visa are not allowed to study in an institution of learning in the country or take up a course during the duration of your stay in China.
- Applicants can attend events and take part in festivals during their time in China.
- Employed Cameroonians are to provide a letter from their employer stating they are aware of the stipulated leave for the duration of your stay.
- Applicants who are not citizens of Cameroon need to present a copy of their valid re-entry pass or resident permit.
- First-timers visiting China are only allowed the single or double entry visa.
- Those who are applying for a multiple entry visa need to provide a copy of their previous visas to China.
- Minors entering China without their parents or guardians are to submit a copy of their birth certificate during the visa application process. If these minors are travelling without their parents or with one of their parents, a letter of consent signed by both their parents is required.
- A receipt that proves that the applicant has paid their visa application fee should be provided.
- During the duration of your stay in China, you are not allowed to take paid or unpaid employment.
China Business Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Business visa (M visa) is issued to those whose intention is to visit China for commercial and trade activities.
- Foreigners with a Chinese business can negotiate and sign contracts with their business partners.
- Holders of this business visa are free to attend conferences, business summits, and trade fairs while they are in China.
- The Chinese business visa is subdivided into two types;
- The M visa is a visa which is issued for business and trade purposes.
- While F visa is issued to applicants who wish to engage in non-commercial visits
- The F visa is also issued to foreigners who are invited to conduct a lecture, an investigation, scientific and cultural exchanges, study tours and other non-business activities in China.
- The duration of stay for the F visa is 30 days, which means you can stay for up to 30 days from the date you gained entry into China.
- While the validity period of the China M visa is three months (90 days).
- Like the tourist visa, the M visa can be issued for single-entry, double-entry or multiple-entry.
- The Chinese visa is extendable. But the extension varies with individual circumstances but it is always granted at the discretion of the Chinese embassy.
- A letter from your employer stating they are aware of your business leave is to be provided. The letter should state the date of terms of your employment, how long you have been employed and the duration of your leave.
- An invitation letter from the Chinese company with a clear signature and stamp. The letter should have the purpose and duration of your visit to the country.
- A Certificate of business registration of the Chinese company which invited you to China is to be presented at the Embassy.
- Any previous business dealings with the Chinese company is to be documented and presented during the China visa application process.
- For non-Cameroonians, a copy of your valid resident permit or re-entry pass in Cameroon is required.
- When you intend to apply for a multiple-entry, you are required to provide a copy of previous visas to China.
- Holders of the China Business Visa(s) are not allowed to be paid for the services they render while they are in China or take any paid employment.
China Work Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The work visa is issued to foreigners who have been offered employment by a Chinese company or intend to take up paid employment.
- Bearing a Chinese work visa is the only eligible and legal way to work in China.
- Securing a work permit is the first step to obtaining a Chinese work visa(z).
- The Z visa is a single entry visa and its validity is at the discretion of the embassy.
- Holders of the Z visa can enter China within 90 days after the visa is issued and must register at a local public security bureau within 30 days of arrival.
- A resident permit will be issued to the holder by the bureau as a replacement for the Z visa. The resident permit unlike the Z visa allow for multiple entry into China for a duration of 1 year.
- Applicants are to submit their passport with a validity of not less than 12 months from date of departure.
- Cameroonians working without a work visa or using a different visa type to work risk paying a fine of 5,000-20,000 Chinese Yuan. Stiffer punishment like jail term can also be issued to defaulters.
- Previous employees in a Chinese Company are to confirm their involvement with a document that proves it.
- An official letter of invitation from your employer written on the company’s letterhead should be provided. The terms of your employment and the address of the company should be stated in the letter.
- An evidence which shows that your employer will not pay you below the minimum wage is required.
- Your employer should provide proof that there was no Chinese citizen available when you were offered this job.
- An original and a copy of employment permit issued by the Ministry of Labor and Employment of China is one of the required documents during the visa processing.
- You are expected to provide an original and a copy of your medical examination report.
- Non-Cameroonians should provide a copy of valid re-entry pass or resident permit.
- The single-entry work visa is generally issued to applicants.
China Student Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- Foreign students who intend to visit China to study in any institution of learning are eligible for this type of visa.
- This visa is of two types; The X1 and X2 visa.
- X1 Visa is given to Cameroonians going to study in China for more than 6 months while the X2 visa is issued to Cameroonians to study for exactly 6 months.
- Students who apply for this visa are allowed to work part-time or apply for internships during the duration of their study.
- Cameroonians were granted approval or issued the X1 visa must apply for a Temporary Residence Permit from the local Public Security Bureau within 30 days upon arrival into China while the X2 visa holders are not required to apply for one.
- Applicants are to provide the JW201 (or JW202) form issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education (only necessary for the X1 Visa) and the notice of admission from your school.
- The JW201 / JW202 form is to be submitted at consulate or embassy during your application for the Chinese student visa (X visa).
- The Chinese Ministry of Education decides the type of student visa to issue or grant approval to you.
- The JW201 form is for those studying in China on a full scholarship while JW202 is for those studying in China by self-support or partial scholarship.
- A letter of admission from the institution you have been accepted into should be provided. The letter should clearly state the course you have been admitted to study and the duration of the program.
- A copy of a medical examination report is required during visa processing.
- Any person suffering from a medical disorder, leprosy, AIDS, venereal disease, tuberculosis or other forms of infectious diseases won't be granted entry or approval into China.
- The single-entry visa is usually issued to students.
- If you are under the age of 18 years, the original copy of your birth certificate should be provided. A notarized letter of consent signed by both your parents should be provided if you are travelling alone.
- Non-Cameroonians are required to provide a copy of their stay permit in Cameroon.
China Official Visa Eligibility & Requirements
- The Chinese Official Visa is issued to foreigners who intend to visit China for official purposes.
- An official letter of invitation from the Chinese government should be provided with other documents during the visa application If the letter is signed by any other organization which is not part of the government, then the visit will not be defined as official.
- If the applicant is holding an ordinary passport, the type of visa that will be issued cannot be diplomatic or official.
- As a Cameroonian diplomat, if the purpose of your visit to China cannot be defined as official, you will not be issued this visa.
- A diplomatic note from the Cameroonian government should be provided and the note should include information about the purpose of your visit, the duration of your visit and your status in the government.
