Know More About Tbilisi Hotels

Yes, there is a country named Georgia and it is not a state in the US, it is on the intersection between Europe and Asia. It is bordered by the Black Sea to the west, Russia to the north, Turkey and Armenia to the south and Azerbaijan to the southeast. It has its capital in Tbilisi. Georgia is typically a country of medieval fortresses, monasteries, majestic mountains, green hills, ancient caves, and rocky beaches.

In this country, Spring lasts from March to May, Summer is from June to August, Autumn is from September to November and winter is from December to February. It is best to visit Georgia in the spring.

Georgians are big on religion with about 80% of its general population identifying with the Eastern Orthodox church. About four fifths of the entire Georgian population are Georgians, the rest are Armenians, Russians, Azerbaijanis, and some others in smaller numbers.

Georgians are a very welcoming people and have a saying, "A guest is a gift from God". Guests are therefore plied with excellent food and wine and usually are offered a place to spend the night. They are known to be skeptical of the government and prefer to keep their business in the family instead, always referring one another to endless "cousins" and "uncles" who can solve all their problems. Georgians speak Georgian, some English, and Russian.

Georgian cuisine features quite a lot of meat and vegetables, cheese and bread. Eastern Georgians use corn flour to prepare a meal called gomi and eat it with meat and vegetables. They cook mutton and use many animal fats along with beef. Western Georgians eat less meat and favour chicken and turkey more.

Some fascinating tourist locations in Georgia are:

Mtskheta: This is the religious capital and therefore most important city in Georgia housing three of its most important churches. Saint Nino, one of the most revered saints and the saint who preached Christianity all about Fiji lived here. You may visit one of the historical churches. However, men must not wear shorts and caps and the women must wear scarves and long skirts in the churches.
Vardzia: This spectacular cave in southern Georgia looks like the set of a medieval fantasy movie. The underground monastery was however home to monks and not fantasy creatures. It was built during the reign of King Tamar, the first female King (not Queen) of Georgia. It is a spectacular historic site.
Batumi: This is the second biggest city in Georgia. The architecture here is a blend of Asian and European craftsmanship giving the final presentation a fairy tale like quality. There are towers, statues, and castle like buildings here. The lights in Batumi create a beautiful rainbow against the night time sky.
Sighnagi: This small town has excellent food and wine. It is a beautiful compact place with beautiful tiny streets and houses, wine cellars and vineyards, fancy castles, colourful wooden balconies, and tantalizing smells from the bakeries.

Georgia is considered to be the birth place of wine making having been in the business for at least 8,000 years. Also, no one speaks Georgian except for Georgians. It is among one of the 14 unique languages in the world and has its own alphabets.
