The largest ethnic groups in the country are the Juvanese who make up 40% of the entire population, the Sundanese, the Malay, and the Madurese. There are also culture influences from the Indian subcontinent, mainland China, the Middle East, and Europe in Indonesia. Indonesia is 87.2% Islamic. The country's official language is Indonesian.

However, staples in the country are rice, vegetables, meat, fish, and soup and these are the constituents of a traditional meal generally. The food is usually served hot and spicy.
