Whilst they appreciate this accolade for the lodge, Butterfly Space is also a unique, non-profit, volunteer community project which brings international volunteers and the community together.
The owners, Alice Leaper and Josie Redmonds, friends who met in Malawi, bought Butterfly Space in 2007 to encourage ethical volunteering, whilst offering an opportunity for volunteers on a budget.
Getting involved in volunteering at Butterfly Space is free, which is the way we believe it should be!
The fifteen projects are diverse, ranging from teaching local children to environmental projects and Nkhata Bay’s first radio station.
