Frequently Asked Questions

Can I travel independently if I don’t speak Norwegian.?

Despite Norwegian being the main language of Norway, almost all Norwegians are fluent in English. About 91% of the population speak fluent English, making Norway one of the most English-proficient countries on the planet where English is not an official language. Unless you approach someone really old and isolated, you should have no trouble whatsoever getting someone to speak English to.

What currency is spent in Norway?
The Norwegian currency is the Norwegian crown (norske krone), usually symbolized as KR. Norway is technically well-developed and many people no longer use cash on a daily basis. Debit cards are the most common mode of payment and there's no problem locating ATMs in urban areas of Norway.

Is it safe to drink tap water in Norway?
Yes, Norway has good quality tap water. Buying bottled drinking water is unnecessary and hugely expensive. Some Norwegians drink straight from streams when hiking, but periodic outbreaks of Tularemia makes this a bit risky.

Is it safe to visit Norway?
Yes, Norway has a very low crime rate. The most likely crimes for visitors to experience are car break-ins, pickpockets and bicycle theft in urban areas around the summer season but its occurrence is rare compared to other large European countries.
